9 Days

Sorry for the big delay in postings!! Things have been really crazy with long days and lots to study going into our final 2 weeks of the academy!! We had our last weekly exam this morning and I made a 94 on it. The highest grade in the class for the 2nd week in a row. However, my joy didn't last long as one of my dearest friends in the academy failed the test by missing 1 to many questions and was excused from the training center because of his 3rd strike. The rest of the day we learned about crimes against children which was a pretty intense class with lots of graphic material that was somewhat upsetting to me seeing things that people would do to helpless children who hadn't done anything wrong. Tomorrow should be an extremely exciting day as we are going to spend the day in the field being trained on vehicle pullovers. I will update tomorrow night.

GOOD NIGHT EVERYONE!!

15 Classroom Days and Counting

Today started with a light and fun 2 mile formation run for out PT. Took some pressure of knowing we had a test coming up at 8:30 off a little bit.

At 8:30 we took our 6Th exam which went well for me. I studied my butt off the entire weekend for this test and felt extremely prepared. After we took our test the instructors went and graded them and came back down with the results. After all was said and done I made a 96 which was the best grade in the class.

After the relief of everyone passing our test we began to learn about Patrol and Observations. This was the entire rest of our day and was a fun and interesting day of class. I learned alot about different patrol techniques that I would have never know. It brought to my attention all of the things that people do that would tell an officer about what they are thinking or actions they are about to take. I really enjoy days like today and hope that we have a day like today for the next 14!! Off to study a little bit of what we learned today and to bed. See you tomorrow!

Another Crazy Week

Well,

Wednesday we had an interesting day learning all about state traffic laws, which was kind of boring but ended with an early day. So we thought, we ended up having a pop up test that we knew we were going to have to take but we thought they were going to tell us when it was going to be. However, we all took and passed the test (I made a 90 on it).

Thursday we have a variety day where we learned about 4 different subjects going from cultural diversity to officer and the public to media relations to stress. Once again this was an extremely boring day that ended pretty early for us but then had to sit around while our instructors decided weather to actually let us leave early or not.

Yesterday we learned CPR, First Aid, and AED. I have already been certified in all of this so it wasn't hard at all for me. We ended the day with 3 test covering those topics which most of our class all made 100's on all 3. After leaving the Academy, I had to go get measured for our hats that our department wears along with our uniforms (I guess for our graduation but I'm not sure). That was the rest of my week for this week. I'm going to spend the majority of my weekend studying for a huge test that we are going to have on Monday morning. I will let you know how that goes Monday night! Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe weekend!

Another Test Down

Today we had test number 5 and I made an 84 on it! I was nervous about the test after we got done taking it when several people we talking about some of the answers and I thought I had failed based on what they were saying. However, the scores came in and I made my 84!

After taking the test we learned about Juvenile offenders and what happens when we detain a juvenile for any offense. It turned out to be an extremely interesting class for me because I learned alot that I previously didn't know anything about.

We had a couple changes in our schedules today for the rest of the week that I think will turn the week into a cool and unusual topics week that don't really go together! I'm looking forward to tomorrow being the fact that we are going to learn about state traffic laws.

I hopefully will update tomorrow about what is going on cause I am exhausted right now and I am about to take a shower, eat dinner and go to bed!

Long Time; Alot Going On

Wow, It has been a long time since I have posted anything about what has been going on. Things have been so busy being gone from home for 12-14 hours a day I haven't had very much time to get on and post about what had been going on.

Since the last time I have blogged we have gone through EVOC (Emergency Vehicle Operation Course), Firearms, defensive tactics (which is when we got pepper sprayed), had several test including a mid-term.

We are down from 32 to 22 full time cadets in our class due to people failing firearms, test, and having to withdrawal due to medical issues.

My body is still sore from defensive tactics this past week where we got to throw each other around, handcuff, learn different techniques to survive on the street when put into situations where our lives would be in danger. This past week was very exciting and exhausting at the same time. We also got pepper sprayed on Thursday afternoon which is an experience I never want to have again. I still to this day swear unless it is an ABSOLUTE LAST RESORT I WILL NEVER USE THAT STUFF IN MY CAREER!!

We only have 4 weeks until graduation on March 26th which I am looking forward to. I hope from today on I will be able to make time everyday to post about what has been going on for that day. I will go into more details about what has been going on as time goes by and I can remember the things we have been doing. Hope everyone has a great week.

TEST DAY

Today started for me at 5 a.m. I was so anxious about the test that we were going to have that I woke up and could not go back to sleep before my alarm went off. I didn't want to pick up my books to study anymore cause I felt like I had done all I could do and felt like trying to cram at the last minute would do nothing but hurt, so I just watched a little TV and got everything ready for the day that was going to start soon.

We as recruits started our day with a run of over 2 miles around the campus where our academy is located. Our run was a formation run where we stay together in rows while we run and all run at the same pace. It was fun but at a little bit to slow of a pace for me but I still enjoyed it.

At 08:30 we started our instructions for the exam from week 1. The test started at 08:40 scheduled to last 50 minutes and was 50 questions. As I began to read the questions I KNEW most of the answers. There were only 6 questions that while I was taking the test I felt like I wasn't 100% sure of. It took me about 35-40 minutes to complete the test and I felt really good afterwards.

After everyone was finished with the exam we had to run and touch "the green house" on the complete other side of campus because some people didn't know how to fill out the scan tron sheets even after the head of the academy went step by step explaining everything. We did some push-ups when we got back and the had to run and touch "the stop sign" a couple times as well.

When it was all said and done we got back in the class to find out that out of 31 people 8 had failed the test. Our instructors were not happy at all about these. I still felt good but started getting a little nervous after hearing that. They told us to get up and look at our scores and when I saw mine I was excited for myself because I made a 86!! I guess all the studying I did over the past week and weekend and no hanging out with friends or family really paid off.

We then spent the majority of the rest of the day with our new topic which was criminal procedure and going over the test to see what we missed and what the right answers were.

Overall it was a great day for me and a not so great day for 8 of my recruit mates.

Friday (PAY DAY)

Yesterday was Friday. The last day of class for the week and also payday for our department.

We started the day with a running exercise where we would sprint for 15 seconds and jog for 30 seconds. I really enjoyed this cause it really got my blood flowing and wasn't that hard. I was feeling good afterwards and ready for sitting in class 8 hours until the day and week was over.

Before class started we had our uniform inspection which was interesting but not so bad. They just looked at our uniforms and helped us understand what it looks like and what it was supposed to look like.

All morning and afternoon we finished the state law book. I found myself really enjoying the entire day not knowing if it was because I knew it was Friday or because the material was just that interesting. After we finished up learning the state law we were split into groups and given a situation to see how well we knew the law. We were asked to apply all the laws we had learned throughout the week and apply charges to the people who deserved to be charged with a crime in the situation. It was interesting to see how many different people had different opinions on the charges that should apply. I guess that's why they say it is to the discretion of the officer. After that was over the instructor narrowed down our materials for what to study for the big test we are going to have on Monday morning. I think I am getting ready for it after doing a study group this morning and doing a little study on my own.

WE GOT PAID YESTERDAY TOO!! That was awesome to see a big check like that after not getting paid anything just about from my last job.
